Not everything is as it appears. We know this, but it's especially
evident in this issue. A seemingly simple hair color change "back to
natural" is often the furthest thing from "simple." The hair inspiration
you pull from social media can be a version of filtered reality—and
probably more filter than reality. Even going gray requires more
than just stopping your monthly root retouches. Luckily for all of us,
we don't have to be able to navigate all these complicated truths
because we can turn to educated, licensed hair professionals.
How important are educated professionals? Even the US House of
Representatives has recognized education institutions for beauty
and wellness professionals with their own day! Check out the
details on page 7. Thank goodness licensed professionals are ready
and able to help us through the hairy jungle of misinformation,
misleading Photoshopped pictures, and oversimplified makeovers.
