12 Beauty Sense
Your hair professional only
makes what they do look
easy because of the time
they spent in school earning
their license to practice,
as well as the hours after
graduation spent gaining
advanced education and
honing their craft. Wonderfully,
through Resolution 168, the
US House of Representatives
recognized educational and
training institutions for beauty
and wellness professionals
when they designated March
6, 2019, as National Beauty
and Wellness Education Day.
Resolution 168 highlights the
importance of proper training and licensing
of beauty and wellness professionals. It
recognizes the aggressive industry job
growth expected over the next decade,
which far outpaces the national average
for all occupations, according to the US
Bureau of Labor Statistics. It acknowledges
the hundreds of hours of education, study,
and training required to prepare for, and
pass, state licensing and obtain certification
to practice, and the opportunities beauty
and wellness institutions provide to
those seeking to enter the workforce.

Commenting on the resolution,
Michael Halmon, board president for the
American Association of Cosmetology
Schools (AACS), says, "On behalf of
the AACS Board of Directors and our
member schools, I would like to thank
Representatives Al Lawson, Jr. (FL) and
Lee Zeldin (NY) and the US House of
Representatives for recognizing our beauty
and wellness industry. Our members work
diligently to ensure our students receive a
high-quality education, preparing them for
entry into this industry field. Oftentimes,
our graduates, who are not traditional
students, cite their completion of beauty
school as changing their lives forever.
They are able to transition into a successful
career and provide for their families like
many never previously imagined."
