Now, I'd like to talk about how to maintain it. While colorful hair conjures up a sort of bohemian, carefree lifestyle, it actually requires a fairly specific regimen. Let's dive in, shall we? (Yeah, that was a mermaid pun.) • You cannot use hot water, or even warm water. You must wash your hair in cold water to keep the colors fresh and vibrant, and to prevent muddiness and bleeding. It sounds unpleasant, but don't worry. You won't have to do it oen. • You cannot wash your hair more than twice a week. Or even get it wet! Get a shower cap and use it! e less you wash, the better. Seriously. Dry shampoo is life. Speaking of shampoo ... • You must use special shampoo. Fashion color is completely different than regular hair color, so even "Color Safe" shampoo doesn't cut it. It must be specifically designed for fashion color, or it will seriously mess up your very expensive color. I recommend cleansing conditioner, because it's the most gentle of all. Would you wash your new Mercedes with Dawn? Nope! Metallic Hair Steel pixie? Why yes, don't mind if I do! Real talk: metallic hair is one of the most difficult looks to achieve and maintain. It must be lifted to platinum and then over-toned. There are a lucky few who can get to this goal in one sitting. But for most, it takes multiple lifting sessions, if it can be done at all. Having color on your hair further complicates things, and sometimes makes for an impossible task. On behalf of colorists everywhere, I implore you to listen to what the professionals say. I know we make it look easy, but take it from me, silver hair (and platinum and pastel) is the white whale of the beauty world. Fashion Color OK. Let's talk about the realities of wearing fashion color. No doubt, some of you have been considering taking the plunge and wearing vivid colors like the ones in this photo. That's awesome! But here are some things you need to know before scheduling your appointment: • To create a proper canvas, the hair must be lifted to blonde. If you have previously colored hair, this may require more than one visit. I want to get you blonde safely, not quickly. A rushed lightening session results in damage, and neither one of us wants that! • It will be a long process. Lifting, toning, treating, cutting, drying, applying the color, processing, and styling all in one go makes for a lengthy appointment. Have a big breakfast, and pack snacks. Bring a book or your tablet, and a charger! • This kind of service isn't cheap. It requires a lot of product and a lot of time. Quality product is costly, but necessary. And you deserve only the best! • Mermaids live a different lifestyle than us mere mortals, and in turn, mermaid hair requires a different care regimen. tiffanycathleen Studio B Hair Design & Waxing Studio
